Okay, I’m lazy this week because of some business meetings I need to attend, so I’m posting some tracks from Nana Mouskouri again. I just can’t get enough of this voice.

I bought this in the dollar vinyl bin at Amoeba Music. Its made for the French-Canadian market as the LP’s made in Canada and every song is in French. There’s something kitschy yet exotic about hearing a Greek bouzouki backing up a French voice in the track ‘Quatre Soleils.’

Nana’s version of ‘The Umbrellas of Cherbourg’ rival’s Catherine Deneuve’s starlet pipes while ‘The Girl Frolm Ipanema’ is right on-par with Astrud Gilberto’s echo-y samba.

I’ll post some videos this week since I’ll be busy, but the content will keep on coming.

Nana Mouskouri – ‘Black Coffee’ http://agedaudio.com/blog/2006/08/21/nana-mouskouri-black-coffee/ http://agedaudio.com/blog/2006/08/21/nana-mouskouri-black-coffee/#comments Mon, 21 Aug 2006 16:35:46 +0000 Administrator http://agedaudio.com/blog/2006/08/21/nana-mouskouri-black-coffee/ I discovered Nana Mouskouri while going through the $1 used record bins at Amoeba Music last year. When I saw the cover with her face I immediately saw where Lisa Loeb got her looks from. I grabbed 2 albums, both in French, and immediately got hooked to her melancholy-yet-gorgeous vocal stylings.

Nana is actually Greek and has been world-reknown since the 1960’s. She’s recorded many albums in Greek, French, English, Spanish, Italian, German, Latin, and Portuguese. Talk about knowing your marketplace. She’s sold more than 300 million records internationally, recording about 1,500 songs in 15 languages on 450 albums. She has more than 300 gold and platinum albums worldwide.

She’s been in the European Parliament from 1994-1999 and recently embarked on her “World Farewell Tour” of Europe, Australia, Asia, South America, the United States, and Canada. She’s quite the busy body these days.Expect more postings with her material as this place grows.

By the way, this song was written by none other than Quincy Jones.
